Last Post

I will be shutting this down soon ... Janet passed away on 20 April 2012 so she will never get to see her dream of traveling around with a 5th wheel. I never was able to get into this blog thing. Shortly after I started this Janet stsarted having problems and it went down hill from there. Perhaps in the future I will pick this up again and write everyday ...

Next Step to RV Life

I really thought this blog thing would be easy and I would be here everyday with something cute to write about. Not so as most of you probably already know. I have not even had the chance to read all of the blogs that I started following a while back. So for my latest update ... We now have or house on the market and what a decision that was. To sell or keep the sticks and bricks was harder to choose than we thought. But the sign is in the yard and now for emptying the house. Our son that lives nearest us will gain the most benifit from us since he is the only house owner. The other two are actually many miles away and it makes it difficult for them to come and go through things with us that they may want. We have started piles for each to be boxed later. We had most of our furniture puchased by our local furniture store we have dealt with for the last 21 years. I love living in small towns where you know your sales people by name for years. We will miss that. So for now we are living out of our suitcase and walk-in closet, mattress on the floor. Still a comfortable nights sleep just more difficult to get into and out of bed, no big deal. Tommorrow my motorcycle should sell and then I get to clean the garage of all that stuff affiliated with bikes. Again my youngest boy will benifit from this as he is also a motocycle guy. We are having a tuff time looking at all the things collected from the kids over the years and realizing we cannot take it all with us ... there are also those treasured photo's and plaques and trophies to deal with. Janet is putting all of our pictures into boxes and when we can get to it I will get them scanned and onto thumb drives. As for the plaques and trophies, they were cool to look at one more time but they are history and we have photo's of what ever evet that was. The yard sale pile gets bigger every minute and that will take place next weekend. We also have a couple boxes of cd's with pictures that I will eventually put on thumb drives as well. The living room is not as comfortable. I use one of the office chairs and the wife is using a wooden patio chair. We are discovering these are not that comfortable. We will figure something out. So much for now ... looking forward to the trip to Kansa to pick out a Nuwa 5th wheel.
Enjoy your day ...

The Start

We just bought our tow vehicle, never had a diesel. A 2004 Chevy 2500HD Duramax/Allison with just under 100,000 miles. Got a good tune up and all fluids/filters changed. The guys looked it over for me and said it should be good for a long time. One owner that took great care of it. Put new tires on as well and it drives super. It has a B&W goose neck hitch and I will install a slider 5th wheel type over that because it is a short bed. I need to get a brake controller because the last owner kept the one he had installed. I am told Prodigy 2 or 3 is the way to go. I need to start reading and talking to folks about what others have, how they like them etc... I am looking forward to see how this diesel pulls. It sounds like it is just waiting for a load. We are on the search for a used 5th wheel trailer to start with as soon as I sell the motorcycle. I have found many, many, many through all the usual sites. We are not new to camping just new to big trailer stuff. Mostly tents in the past and one coleman popup. I do have a friend who has done this (5th wheel camping) for many years and will be available to go with me when I get serious to buy. Once we get started we will go for a week or two at a time venturing further away from home as we gain experience and confidence. The first few days out will be just down the road. This will allow us to practice set up and take down with friends only a short phone call away, should we need their assistance. Ok so this is my first blog ... lets see how it goes from here ...
