The Start

We just bought our tow vehicle, never had a diesel. A 2004 Chevy 2500HD Duramax/Allison with just under 100,000 miles. Got a good tune up and all fluids/filters changed. The guys looked it over for me and said it should be good for a long time. One owner that took great care of it. Put new tires on as well and it drives super. It has a B&W goose neck hitch and I will install a slider 5th wheel type over that because it is a short bed. I need to get a brake controller because the last owner kept the one he had installed. I am told Prodigy 2 or 3 is the way to go. I need to start reading and talking to folks about what others have, how they like them etc... I am looking forward to see how this diesel pulls. It sounds like it is just waiting for a load. We are on the search for a used 5th wheel trailer to start with as soon as I sell the motorcycle. I have found many, many, many through all the usual sites. We are not new to camping just new to big trailer stuff. Mostly tents in the past and one coleman popup. I do have a friend who has done this (5th wheel camping) for many years and will be available to go with me when I get serious to buy. Once we get started we will go for a week or two at a time venturing further away from home as we gain experience and confidence. The first few days out will be just down the road. This will allow us to practice set up and take down with friends only a short phone call away, should we need their assistance. Ok so this is my first blog ... lets see how it goes from here ...

  1. Welcome to blogland! It's great to become your first official Follower too!

We have a 2007 Chev Duramax 2500HD CC SB and it pulls just great, no problems at all. We're towing a Heartland Big Country 3250TS (32ft) and just returned from a few months in Palm Springs.

    You'll love the Duramax.

  2. We too have a 2004 Chev 2500 Duramax/allison. we bought it new and it just yesterday hit 100.000 miles, it is a great truck. We pull a Coachman 30 foot fiver and it does just great.By all means with the short bed get a good quality slider as even with the extended pin posts they will hit you cab if you not careful,We went with an extended cab long bed on this truck and love it naturally you don't have to slide it, but I kept the slider hitch I had from our old truck. Any quality fiver at 30 feet or so with a slide or two will get you going and have plenty of room for you. Your gonna love it we do. Be safe out there. Sam & Donna..
